Ultimus 0W-16 — selling a specification the buyer cannot see.
One gold body,
one red grade.
Challenge
0W-16 is a modern low-viscosity full synthetic. The person buying it is buying a number they cannot see, smell or test — the whole proposition lives in a specification. The pack has to make that feel current and credible without turning into a data sheet.
Approach
The container is one continuous gold, and the label is a wedge cut across it at an angle, so the grade block lands at the optical centre of the face rather than the geometric one.
Red is reserved for exactly two things — the Ultimus name and the 0W-16 / API SP block. Nothing else on the pack is allowed to use it, which is what keeps the grade the first thing you read from a metre away.
Process
The wordmark is embossed into the handle and printed on the cap face, so the pack identifies itself from above in a crate and from the side on a shelf — two views the front label never covers.
Back-of-pack was laid out as a real reading hierarchy rather than a legal dump: the description first, then the properties as a scanned list, then the standards.
